Gordon Collins-Faucne Case
While losing someone close to us is always hard to handle, it is even more difficult to deal with when the person responsible is a family member. Finding closure in these situations can be not only difficult, but impossible. Asking yourself how something so horrible could possibly happen is the first thing that comes into your mind: making sure that it never happens again is the second.
Such is the case with a recent incidnet in Arundel involving a 10-week old baby boy. Police say that the father, 23-year-old Gordon Collins-Faucne was at his home on 521 Limerick Road with the child, Ethan, on Saturday morning when he attempted to change the baby’s diaper. Faunce told police that the child wouldn’t stop crying and was moving around, making it difficult to change the diaper.
Faunce stated that he became frustrated and picked the infant up by the head only and held him in the air before throwing him into the living room chair. Later that morning, family members discovered that the child was unresponsive and called for help.
The infant was transported to the Maine Medical Center in Portland where he was listed in grave condition. A hospital spokesperson stated that the child suffered from severe head injuries and bleeding around the brain. His condition did not improve and he was taken off of life support on Tuesday morning
When questioned by police, Faunce admitted that he had picked up the child and thrown him. He also admitted that an earlier injury to the infant’s arm occurred when he grabbed the child’s arm and twisted it.
Faunce was initially arrested and charged with elevated aggravated assault and aggravated assault, but now that the child has died, the state Attorney General said those charges would be upgraded.
Faunce is being held on $100,000 bail. He made his initial video appearance before a judge in Springvale District Court where he entered no plea.
Upon his arrest, authorities from the state Department of Health and Human Services removed two other children from the home, the victim’s twin brother and a 3-year-old sibling. The victim’s mother, 23-year-old Christina Henderson, was not charged.
Faunce has no previous criminal record. However, he did tell police that he was on medication for post traumatic stress disorder. He also stated that the had been physically and sexually abused as a child.
An official with the state police stated that the case against Faunce had been sealed due to a request that was made by the prosecution.
While it is impossible to watch our children on a continuous basis, parents would like to believe that their children will always be safe. Even those who you would never suspect as causing them harm can do so in an instant.
If your child has been injured or killed due to a malicious act, then you deserve to see justice. No one should get away with harming someone else, especially a defenseless child. Make sure that these individuals are placed behind bars so that other children do not also fall victim.
