Attempted Robbery in Windham for Oxycodone
Robbery has always been a popular crime due to the almost limitless amount of businesses out there that can be targeted. But while most of these robberies are cookie-cutter in design when executed, sometimes a robbery comes along that is a little out of the ordinary. In fact, it is almost so bizarre that you wonder why someone would place their freedom at risk just to commit the crime.
Such a crime recently occurred at the Walgreens store on the corner or routes 302 and 115 in Windham. At around 8:50 PM, a lone individual entered the store and made his way straight to the back of the business where the pharmacy was located. He walked up the window and handed the clerk a note stating that he had a gun and demanding oxycodone, which is a popular target of thieves. Oxycodone is prescribed as a pain medication. No demand for cash was ever made.
The clerk handed over the pills and the suspect left the store without further incident. The clerk was unharmed. No gun was ever spotted. It is unknown if the suspect fled the area in a vehicle or on foot.
Surveillance video taken from inside the store’s front door show the individual as being a male with a medium build approximately 5’6” to 5’10” in height. His identity was obscured by a black winter jacket with an attached hood and over-sized sunglasses and black pants.
This robbery is the first pharmacy robbery to take place in Windham in approximately five years. Before this latest robbery the most recent robbery was at the CVS pharmacy in Shaw’s plaza. During that robbery, a woman stated that she was carrying a bomb and demanded pills. Another robbery took place just two years ago at the Rite Aid in Naples.
Police are asking anyone who might have any information pertaining to the case to please contact the Windham police department.
While no one was injured during this robbery, victims are not always so lucky. As is often the case, robbers will injure or even kill their victims, sometimes out of sheer anger and sometimes because they are caught up in the moment. Sometimes they do so because they feel disappointed that their efforts did not produce more of a take. While this was a simple act of theft, it could have easily turned much more violent.
If you, or someone that you know, has recently been a victim of a robbery, you deserve to see the robber put behind bars. If not, they are free to find another victim. Perhaps the next time their victim might be able to get away unharmed. Stopping them now will ensure that no one else suffers needlessly from a loss of their possessions- or worse. Robbers rarely rob only once. If they are not immediately caught, they feel empowered to commit another crime, often one that is more involved and has the potential to produce a bigger payoff.
